How much would my tech stack and language be a factor in getting selected in faang or good product based companies?
I'm asking from getting my resume selected to getting an offer.
I read everywhere that only DSA and system design is needed, but I'm still concious about my tech stack.

My brother who is at MBB considered it but ultimately decided that asking current / former MBB consultants to do a quick 30 min call to case / get feedback was far more valuable than hiring 1 coach. He got a lot of great feedback across different dimensions and it was free. Even better is he got the offer.
SA1: Both. For both case practice and behaviorals, it’s helpful to chat with current/former folks. Even if you don’t know anyone at MBB, you can reach out on LinkedIn to learn about their path/experience, and if the convo goes well, you can ask for a follow up call to run through a quick case / feedback.
Only used free resources and read Case in Point for baseline information, not structure guidance.
Got plenty of practice with friends & quality feedback from people at firms that I met during recruiting.
Don’t know if it helps.
That does help, thanks!

Coaches aren’t helpful/worth the expense unless 1) you need the accountability or 2) you’re unable to find good case partners elsewhere
Makes sense, thanks!
No
Nope. Was an on-campus hire and many of my friends made it without one as well.
Switched from industry to consultancy recently.
Read about interview prep on their websites.
Watched a lot of videos on YouTube.
Got through into one of the MBBs of out the two I applied to.
Hope that helps, and good luck.
I did not.
I did not honestly have a lot of time. Probably less than a week when I was told that I’d be moving to the next stage.
Plus, most importantly, I wanted to ensure I don’t sound like a robot and wanted to maintain some originality.
I did however write down responses for the behavioural. I basically could read them out.
Interviewed via zoom.
Use crafting cases. It’s free and will really help
It was helpful for me especially for behaviourals..make your story line sounds more in line with the firm culture
After MBB rejects in college, when i lateraled, I did spent ~800 on coaches to have them grill me from the angles I needed, became more fluent and able to articulate and defend, felt that I mastered it, IMO very worth it.
If you know people who are in consulting or those who went to business school and have experience with casing there is zero reason to pay for a coach.
Never used one, and I’d imagine you’ll find people who are trying to convince you of the need to pay for more coaching
Need? No. But think of it more like having a personal training for recruiting. After going for MBB 3 times, I finally made it. Do you want take the free long road or paid fast-pass? Your time is also way more precious as a working professional vs students with dozens of classmates to prep at the same.
I used a coach bootcamp (which went out of business). It was designed to level up the playing field between industry hires and MBAs. One weekend of case and fit prep, and pairing with a few other industry applicants to practice cases. Resume was submitted via the coach so the companies knew. IMO if you're applying from industry and new to cases, time poor etc a coach can be useful. They can help you finesse things like how to answer first, but you still need to put in the hours to practice cases
I’m late here but my friend just got an offer w BCG. They self studied but also hired a coach to polish and said it really helped. Non business background, experienced hire, for reference.
