Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

I just joined AWS and went through yhe interviews. It was with 5 people (Hiring manager, Account manager, Solutions Architect, a peer and a bar raiser). All of them behavioral; SA was curious about some technical aspects. 2-3 examples per LP is great. Be sure to follow STAR format and provide data where possible. Remember to rehearse and also have answers for “why amazon”, “tell me about yourself”, “walk me through your resume” etc. Happy to answer any other questions you may have. Ask for interviews to be scheduled on multiple days and try not to squeeze them all in a day. This helps big time.
All your STAR stories must include actions that *you* took. It’s fine to say “the team decided X” as long as you follow with, “and then *I* did Y and Z.”
Happy to help as well.
If you don’t have data still try and reframe it as “if I had the opportunity I would have collected XYZ data points.” Additionally, some interviewers almost always ask what you’d do better/differently so never say “nothing” to that question
Here some tips:
- every interviewer will have 1-2 LP to test you. Make sure you have enough examples, well structured, and ALWAYS provide data to show results
- STAR format for the answers, including L for learnings. Try to include also how you applied your learnings afterwards
- You can use the same example twice as long as it illustrates well enough the LP, but try to use a different perspective
- Ask questions to the interviewers, do your homework
- Use language that anyone can understand, when using acronyms or similar explain and give context
- best of luck!!
O what is your current role?
