You could give birth at any time…
Yes! I was so uncomfortable I thought I was going to pass out, and i looked it up afterwards so it wasn't as bad coming back at least. But it's pretty much the only time I got heartburn during my pregnancy and apparently gas expands during flight so my regular in-flight ginger ale only made things worse!
I kind of had some pressure to make sure everyone I work with knew my leave plans at 3 months out because I’m taking an extended leave. I was sort of irritated because I was nervous that I would stop getting as much work during the last month of our fiscal year and not make hours. Luckily that didn’t happen, but I did have a partner ask me a week or two ago when I would start “ramping down” and I had suggested mid-Nov (I’m due in December) and she thought that was reasonable.
Also, the majority of people I work with will likely continue to give me work until my water breaks unapologetically to get what they can off their plate until the last minute LOL. Maybe you have someone who is wanting your hours or needs more work for whatever reason?
The colleague is maybe awkwardly trying to be supportive (are they a parent?) and/or if they’re the one taking on your work, nervous that they’ll come in cold with not enough background/context and without you there to explain what’s going on. FWIW I have numerous colleagues who would’ve been glad to get ramped down before their last trimester, and one good friend who blames BigLaw stress for her child coming over a month early and having to be in the NICU (and really resented people in her group for not taking stuff off her plate before she entered her last trimester). Of course, every pregnancy is different so you may not feel you need as much support this far out, but many women I know do and would be grateful for it.
I ended up giving birth unexpectedly at 35 weeks but started keeping a spreadsheet with all relevant info when my pregnancy turned “high risk” in the second trimester. Luckily someone was able to step in and take over right away when I delivered.
I had one huge deal where I started copying my replacement maybe a month or two before I went out because there were a lot of moving pieces and they started picking up some discrete workstreams to get plugged in and up to speed , but I didn’t actually hand most things I’d been working on over until the week I went out. Is this a male colleague or female colleague? Feels like this could be an awkward attempt to be supportive or a weird competitive thing
