Depends on company’s urgency to fill the role honestly.

My first in-house gig took 8 weeks from start to finish. My current in-house took 3 weeks from start to finish.

like

Also to add the time between my first and second gig, I was looking for about 6 months while at the first gig

I’m 7th year IP. I’ve been actively applying for in house jobs since July.

I spent the better half of a year moving in house (5 year lit)

like

Totally depends. My current role was 7 weeks from initial reach out to offer, but the majority of movement was in the first week (all interviews took place the first week). Then it was waiting while they sorted things out on their end.

like

Are in house roles harder to get the more senior you are (coming from big law)?

5-7 years is generally prime time to make the move. After that it does get harder as you’re competing with candidates that have already been in-house sometime. But it does happen after that time.

I’ve been at a job for a few months and hate it - partners set unrealistic deadlines, micromanage, and create work that truly is not necessary/push urgency when there is no real urgency. I had other offers prior to accepting this job that may still be options, and going back to my old job (for a pay cut) might also be an option. I can’t tell if this is just burnout, growing pains, or just an untenable work environment. Would you ride it out for a year at new job or pursue other options? HELP!

People who don’t submit their time daily, how do you remember what you did and for how long? I’ve always just submitted each timer as soon as I finish a task—“call with x re y” really doesn’t take that long even if I’m busy, and if I don’t do it immediately I’ll forget all those little I did in the morning by the time I go to bed. No shade at all to those with different systems, just genuinely curious because I see a lot about catching up at month end on here and I have no idea how that works??

How did you give notice you were lateraling to people you like? Particularly if you haven't been there that long?

I'm lateraling to another firm because frankly I think the management of this one is terrible, but the people (and individual partners) I actually work with are awesome. I've only been here for about 18 months, so I imagine that short time frame will make it extra awkward 😬

If you’re succeeding on all the right metrics (i.e., leadership loves you, clients love you, you’re participating on pitches, you’ve brought in clients, and you’re set up to inherit a book of business), but you’re still not super into it, being promoted to income partner won’t change things, right? Worth sticking out to see or jumping to go in house at a pre-IPO, late stage startup you find super exciting and interesting?

Serious billing question - if during the course of the day, you first receive an email from Client A at say 11:10am and you read it, you then respond to it at 12:20pm. You get another email at 2pm from Client A and respond immediately. The next email comes in at 4pm, you read it and respond only at 4:30pm. None of the email responses take more than 3-5mins. You are working on matters for other clients at all other times during the day. How much are you billing for Client A?

Question for funds folks, since no one is around to answer any questions and I can't seem to find this answer anywhere. Why can't a placement agent combine or integrate the offering of interests in the sponsor's fund with the contemporaneous offering of interests in another fund? Is it based on reputational risk or from a sales perspective in case someone rejects both funds, any other issues? Thanks!
