Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

It’ll be a good learning opportunity!
I will say - healthcare coverage/health benefits at big health companies tend to be worse, so if that’s important to you, let that be a factor
That's so ironic
What is your educational background? It will be very difficult to break into DS without your MS unless you have an incredibly robust portfolio/GitHub of personal projects.
A lot of entry level DS roles require a master’s. If this role doesn’t, make sure you’re asking questions to ensure it’s truly a DS they’re looking for and not a data analyst. Similar in context, very different in function.
It might be a strong opportunity for growth, and you might also get access to data that only big companies will pay for, where knowing certain data inside out will help you in the future (so there might be an avenue for you in health tech down the line). But it's important to know the scope of the role and projects that you'll work on so you know if you'll have 2-3 key accomplishments to demonstrate when you interview
What company? Some variability in quality of data science groups across the large healthcare players.
