Going to Tahoe to ski in Feb. I have the option of a 1.5 layover in PHX or 3.5 hours in AUS.

Is 1.5 hours enough in PHX for bags to transfer? I really don’t want my ski equipment to miss the transfer but 3.5 hours seems overkill. My layovers will both be around 5pm local time if that matters.

I need to change my united flight from Friday to tomorrow and also change location. Is there any way I can avoid the $200 change fee?
