Morning! Transitioning to working in the US can be really tough. Have you tried networking through LinkedIn or local GIS groups? If I were you I'd make sure you tailor your resume to show how your GIS skills enhance your engineering background. Are you applying to entry level roles? I would consider entry-level roles or internships to build U.S. experience. It's a rough job market for everyone, not just people coming from different countries so I'd say keep at it!
Thank you so much! I usually applied for internship or entry level, and also I took classes at cal state to pass my EIT exam, I am having some struggles to get all my documents from my country but I am working on it as well,, I am continuing knocking doors to get the opportunity to start again my journey as a Civil Engineer.
I don't think I would suggest trying to jump to another field in this job market. Its just a really tough time to be looking for a job but if you dont' have experience in something, they likely won't hire you. I would stick with the field you are in currently and keep applying.
Very difficult without a fully qualified license of pengg, to get an engineer job, aa previously suggested better to apply entry level roles. Market is bad and you are tied up in chicken and egg scenario where you would need some experience to get a fully qualified pengg license
OP
Kindly answer the following,
- What engineering experience do you have? For example
- industry and YOE?
- Projects category, type and numbers (high-level),
- Projects location clients industry, or practice industry(ies)
- Budget,
- Direct responsibilities and results.
- Country of experience
- Sex (to point you to the right affiliations)
If you don't have direct work experience with GIS, acquiring the certification along will not get you in unless you know someone willing to bet on you.
You need to leverage your previous experience to maximize value when it comes to job opportunities and earning potential. You can utilize your GIS knowledge to differentiate yourself.
In a short sell, you are an engineer that know how to use GIS, but since this isn't tied to any of your previous work experiences, it is hard to prove this to a potential employer. Lean on your engineering background and work experience to target growing fields like Datacenters, but that depends on the type of job you did before.
I'm a hiring manager, not necessarily yours, because I'm not hiring right now. Feel free to follow up for advice.
