Got a 3% raise when inflation is closer to 6%. Technically it’s a “raise,” but it feels like a pay cut. Would you bring it up, or just take the win and keep quiet?

Was this a raise you asked for, or something they gave everybody across the board? If you were negotiating a raise, then say something unless negotiations are over. If it’s just something they gave across the board, then don’t say anything about inflation but maybe you could start negotiations for a real raise based on regular raise factors like value to the firm etc.

inflation is 2.7 to 2.9 percent

Yeah. The highest inflation I’ve seen was in 2022, I think, when it was over 8%. Pretty low before and after that. (I always pay attention because of rent escalation clauses in leases tied to inflation. That year a cap of 5.75% I negotiated in 2015 came back to haunt me.

Hello! I’m a Talent Acquisition Manager at a 300 FTE sized gov contractor with 2 recruiters under me. One of my recruiters and I are both having babies in August and will be out for 12 weeks. She’s only coming back part time. My leadership already said no to hiring another full time recruiter. Has anyone had any good experience with contract recruiters? Or any advice for a short term solution?

I’m in the biglaw hiring process through an outside recruiter. It’s so frustrating because he’s having these conversations with the firm and only paraphrasing the gist of them to me. He says he can’t forward the exact emails. Is that BS? Why can’t I see what the firm is telling my recruiter?

I have an interview with Korn Ferry for an associate principal role and am curious about others’ experiences have been with work-life balance here. Also, I have an idea of what I should be compensated in this type of role, but any insights on how they pay compared to others would be helpful. Are you traveling during the pandemic or have client interactions been virtual? Lastly, if you are a consultant here, are you on billable hours? My current consulting role is not - so this would be new.

Negotiating a settlement. I’m at $10k, opposing counsel is at $20k. My client won’t go higher than $15k. OC has come down to 17.5k and says his client won’t budge from that. Do I offer 12.5k so we can hopefully meet in the middle at 15k? Is that how the settlement game is played? Seems dumb we can’t just say let’s meet in the middle now and be done with this. (I’m a first year, first time negotiating a settlement on my own and I don’t want to screw this up!)
