Its risky to make this career shift. Deloitte is known to be brutal. Usually people who work in consulting do that to earn more money or to become partner. Which one of this is your target. If your compensation will be same I will not move. There’s a cultural aspect to all changes. When we are young , we are resource and are employed to generate profit. When we are old we need to drive , use younger folks and generate profit. Any think in between is disillusioned overhead!!
Thx for the feedback and I’m aware of the partner challenges. The role isn’t fully BD it’s a bit behind the scenes, being pulled in to advise customers and internal opportunities on the right tech to and help sell services around the projects.
My job is pretty intense as is, 60-70 hours a week, lots of travel, always have a revenue gun to your head, it’s a grind house like all big tech sales.
curious what it’s like on the consulting side?
Can you offer a few bullet points about the brutal part?
If it’s so brutal why do you all stay?
What’s your motivation to make a move? What made you go forward with the interview process? Sales in these 2 organizations are seen/treated differently. Path is partner is not very clear. What’s the next trajectory stop at Salesforce?
Let us know what u decide. GL!
I would stick with SalesForce. Unless you have some personal circumstances that is making you want to move elsewhere.
Agree 100%
You are being offered a potential same amount of money to do something you have little experience doing, selling services. Why would you want to take that risk? I would say selling at Deloitte would be a lot of travel and hours, too. What's the net benefit? What have they committed to you that would be better?
Downside risk is less money overall in the short term.
It’s a huge downgrade from Salesforce to D. I would avoid it even if double the pay...
Also D has a -ve culture compared to Salesforce..
Can’t use exact words here. Ex-D here, Salesforce is x times better than D...
I would not make the switch unless there were excruciating reasons for leaving salesforce. Selling services is a whole new ballgame and the network is very clickish - you will first be selling to each damn partner, and only if they buy it will they let you sell to clients. I would not make this switch if it were me.
My experience with the Big 4 is that their BD personnel are well compensated, but the majority of it is incentive based. Your total Comp could hit $4-$500k, but that will be dependent on hitting all of your sales metrics.
Totally different environment for sure. If you are accepted in as a catalyst for sales with a push from the Partners and MDs you will most likely be successful. If you are being forced upon an organization, not so much.
The Deloitte recruiter must gave done a great job. Managed someone to quit one company and joined D at same salary.
If you’re inclined towards D, atleast negotiate for a handsome hike...
As a Salesforce partner who also does sales, let me caution you that when you are an AE at Salesforce, you are selling a (generally) proven product, whereas when you are selling professional services, things can potentially go south. Make sure the delivery team for your sales is top-notch in order to CYA from no starts and audits.
