I’ve been approached my by company that one of our large clients (who im currently project managing for) is looking for a consultant of sorts, and if they hire us, I’d be the first person asked to take on this consultant role. This isn’t something my company typically offers and would greatly change the scope of my role. Has anyone ever taken on a role like this? If so, were you able to negotiate a percentage of the consulting fee? Or was it a bump in salary during the project?

Is it wrong that I’m just not into PE/VC? It seems to be the most desirable exit for most people that I work with. Has anyone just taken a break from work without anything lined up? Every offer I’ve gotten wants me to start in a month and with 2 weeks notice that leaves me only 2 weeks to recharge. For my mental health I really think I need an extended break (like 3 months). I have about 60k liquid to sustain myself and pay about $1500 a month in rent.

Incoming junior-level consultant wants to know what is “billable hour”.
Once in a while I see discussions around billable hours, but I don’t know how that works. After googling, it appears to me that billable hour only matters to me if my salary is paid by hours. Since I will receive a fixed annual salary, does this mean that I don’t need to worry about the concept of billable hours?
A related questions: generally speaking, is the bonus related to the hours that I worked?
