I’m currently finishing grad school, and a classmate of mine had a part-time job at a local NGO while we were in school. He probably made $10/hr working a maximum of 10 hours per week. He lost that gig due to COVID and now qualifies for a nominal amount of state unemployment + $600 from the fed. He’s making way more than he ever made in that role, and there are MANY people in a similar position.
NPR did an interesting exposé on the matter. They interviewed several essential workers who could potentially make more and risk less by getting fired and collecting unemployment.

I dont want to sound mean but its alarming to me that so many folks are jumping to refer someone that they are absolutely not familiar with. Isnt the whole point of referals to get someone who you know and can trust?

From my view what’s the harm to me? I get a referral bonus and quite honestly I know the game now - without referrals nobody is seeing your application

Happened to me a couple weeks back. Can understand you’re probably feeling super confused, frustrated, betrayed. I’m really sorry for the news. Found it best to just focus forward on finding something new vs. dwelling on the decision. Keep your head up!

My biggest worry is rushing into something new instead of waiting for the right offer, knowing that it’s not a great time to be looking for employment.
