For some reason when I got promoted I still expected to do my old tasks with the addition of the new ones. After a couple weeks I was questioning why it felt like my load just got even heavier. It feels like a "temp" period where I can prove myself but this promotion isn't really feeling like one.
That's the way it usually goes in my experience. Best case scenario is that they just haven't had time to backfill your old role yet and you'll have all those responsibilities taken off your plate once they do.
Hard to say what is going on if there is no communication. Are they just having you do that until someone else is brought on board? Is that now just a part of your normal working responsibilities? I have had that happen, but I was paid fair enough, it didn’t bother me to have added on tasks with what I was doing before.
Depends on the company but a lot of places will expect you to keep up with your old responsibilities as well as the new with no extra pay. It’s definitely a pisstake, your best bet is just to chat to you manager about it and see if you can move away from those old responsibilities
Congrats on the promotion—but yeah, this sounds all too familiar. It’s fair to take on some overlap for a bit, but if the assistant work isn’t getting phased out or redistributed soon, it’s worth having a clear chat about expectations. A title shift should come with role clarity, not just extra workload.
