Had a miscarriage on Friday (third IVF loss in a row) and also learned I need to cut my upcoming 7-day vacation down to 2 days to accommodate depositions. I’m too busy with work to be able to process the loss, and I’m so miserable. Just needed to get it off my chest as it’s not really something I’m comfortable talking about at work.

I recently had an initial interview for a technical recruiter position. The guy on the phone stated that this is not a 9-5 job and long hours are expected. I proceed to ask how much PTO is offered and he said that is not recommend within the first 6 months of working and the harder you work the more PTO you receive. From that conversation, I saw instant red flags. Any thoughts?

Two weeks ago I was pulled into a room and told by current employer that I was getting my $890.00 holiday pay out. Which would be taxed at 40 % because it was a gift. Today, never received it. Was told by the financial dept. that I had a warning therefore I wasn’t eligible. Called my boss. She called back said it was handled and I would indeed get it next week with my regular check. 30 minutes later…boss called back and says that HR did some digging and found that I’m not eligible. Who’s hiring?

My local Safeway is already stocking Valentine's Day chocolates. What would they do without holiday candy to sell? Is this their main purpose? I wonder what they do in off season (if that exists)

I'm 6 months old at D! Planning early promotion next year.. counselor and pm both are backing me.. I need to go to India for at least 4 weeks in Dec ... most probably would be rolling off from current project by then .. would this vacation hurt my promotion chances coz of utilization etc?

Partners - Do you ever take vacations?

I have been at my current firm for about 1.5 years, and in that entire time the partner in my group hasn't been out of the office a single time. Is that normal? I can't tell if it's standard for big law partners to not take time off, if the dynamics for my group may be different (only 1 partner in the entire group), or it the partner I work with is just a masochist.

Here's a question I wish I never had to ask. Is it better to use the code for bereavement leave or just burn pto I'm going to lose anyway? Does it make a difference from a utilization standpoint?

Recent lateral (6ish months). On pace for 2000. Has anyone moved away from NY and successfully resigned from the NY bar? What are the consequences if you just don’t pay? The requirements are insane to officially “resign” - draft a motion, pay a fee, send proof of service - I honestly do not know what this nonsense means, I’m not a litigator for a reason.
