We are only helpful if it’s a related practice area or it’s 2021?
What year are you?
Thank you for raising this question — it’s something many legal professionals think about but rarely discuss openly.
From my experience, a pivot is possible when you can clearly demonstrate transferable skills, especially if your current work involves analytical writing, regulatory understanding, or complex dispute resolution.
I’ve seen successful transitions into compliance, investigations, risk management, and corporate advisory — even for those coming from a litigation-heavy background. Recruiters can be helpful, but the strongest results usually come from direct networking with practitioners in the target practice area.
If anyone has practical steps or examples of successful pivots, I’d be interested to hear them as well.
Identify the skills that are transferrable, and identify the role that you like, find the common between the two. You don’t need a recruiter to do the initial steps, and it’s better to present yourself to a recruiter with those areas ready to share.
