Got an offer for a sales applications manager role at Cisco and a Strategic AE role at Amazon - both are basically the same pay (130~ base, 220 OTE)
I don’t have any friends at either company so I was curious if anyone has experience and can shed some light on culture/ work life balance to help me make a decision? Thanks for the help guys!
Do any of you know anything about Mabbly?

Your concern should be not getting fired, partner is not what you need to be focusing on and highly improbable unless you have a powerful champion

Not what I asked but thanks for your unsolicited advice 👍 looking for motivation to stay
Doubt it at a place like LW where it’s almost impossible to make equity partner in the first place. Probably at lower ranked places, esp if you’re a needed specialist or something

As someone who this happened to I really would look into lateraling especially if you’re a midlevel or more senior.

I was blindsided but had already started looking because things were slow and this job isn’t an annuity. That said I likely overlooked or explained away behavior that could have indicated I was being pushed out. The partners I worked with straight out gas lit me and told me that things were fine and everyone was slow. In any event, I had already secured a job and was clearing conflicts when I got the bad review where I was given 3 months to gtfo. They let me structure the 3 months such that I kept working until I got a new job and then I got a lump sum for the remaining weeks. Things are going much better at the new firm (which is hired ranked for my practice area).

Typically, you would not receive a negative review *in writing* if the firm wanted you to stay.
It’s so hard to not take written reviews personally, but they are strategically deployed and don’t reflect your actual abilities as a lawyer.

Hi A2 and A9: I’m so sorry this happened to you.
You could try asking the firm’s coordinator of your reviews for any that may not have been given to you, saying something like “I’m trying to learn from this experience and would like to see all the reviews submitted in order to improve.”
An associate in this bowl did say they were given this info when they asked.
You could also talk to a trusted reviewer about what happened in your review, or a trusted senior associate or partner not involved in your review about what likely happened.
If you contact the firm alleging employment discrimination claims, this is also a way to get hold of reviews. They will often be provided in a response to your claims, or via discovery.
It probably depends how junior you are. If you’re a 5th (or maybe even 4th) year or beyond, then you’re likely cooked if you got a bad review.
Run… no need to waste your time there.

What was the substance of your review?
How negative is negative? Like your adjective was “mixed” or still just “valued and appreciated”
