A travel credit allows them to keep the cash on hand to fund operations which they desperately need right now. They're not obligated to give you anything and you'll use the travel credit later on. JetBlue has incredible customer service though, if you ask nicely they will probably refund you cash.

I'm sorry that the facts don't support your feelings but if you were just looking for reinforcement then you should've said so.
Here's some ideas:
1. Go publicly shame them on social media. JetBlue tends to be most receptive on Twitter.
2. Call the DOT. If you feel like the flight was cancelled and a same day alternative was not provided, they are breaking the law by not providing a refund.
3. Call your states' attorney general
4. Initiate a chargeback with your credit card (unlikely to be accepted but will have it taken off your bill for at least 2 months)
5. Cite the JetBlue passenger bill of rights with customer service (you can find this online). It says that travel credit will be provided but they've given me an additional $600 before because I had to contact them to initiate a refund for a cancelled flight (due to mechanical issue).

Almost all airlines are only giving credits or free changes, this is not a Jet Blue issue. I had a flight to SE Asia with United that was supposed to be this week, I did not get a refund and just got a no fee change. Not sure why you’re “disgusted” by this behavior...
No not OP 🤦🏼♀️ - my flight was canceled and they are not honoring their obligation to refund me. The government is going to bail out the airline industry - not me
