Hey Coaches! I’m Alyssa, and I’m one of the Community Leaders here at Fishbowl. I’ve been in the classroom for 10 years and a classroom coach for 6 (mainly elementary/Pre-K). Excited to be here!

I have a flipped classroom and my biggest challenge today is that my high school students don’t slow down long enough to read the directions/ instructions/ deliverables. Anyone see this happening?

I work with a classroom of Middle School ED students. One student, who I worked with the year before, has changed alot over the year. Last year (pre COVID), she had a good head on her shoulders and I thought I had good rapor with her. But over that period of isolation, she tried to commit suicide.

All year, she was much more withdrawn and ALWAYS on her phone! At the end of the I was 'beat up by her - she really knocked my glasses off.

How should I approach her in the upcoming year?

I can manage my classroom better if I don’t respond to emails outside of office hours. This gives my mind a break and by consequence refreshes me for the next day. It also sets a boundary.

I'm transitioning from teaching 8th grade mathematics at a public school to teaching a 7/8 self-contained classroom at a charter school.
Any advice for teaching mixed grade levels or multi subject is appreciated: scheduling, classroom setup, subject order, behavior management, etc. I'm struggling to find my rhythm with only 6 weeks before kids return.

I’m thinking about moving up to a high school English position from 8th grade English. Mainly I’m looking for a change. Any thoughts on the differences I’d be facing?

I have high school children of my own, but disciplining high schoolers has always intimidated me for some reason. I have excellent classroom management, but I feel like high schoolers are a little smarter ab getting around rules and less worried about consequences.

I know that the general advice is not to cut your own time, but if you think you took WAY TOO LONG on something should you? I don’t want partners to think of me as inefficient.

Started at a big firm in July with high hopes- in the career path I wanted and I would be joining with other new grads.
After onboarding, it’s as if my team forgets about us every day. The training is non existent, there doesn’t seem to be any initiative to invest in new hires, my manager scolds me for not knowing enough yet gives no direction. Have students make their own "Thank You" cards. I have collected many throughout the years and keep them in a scrap book which I revisit from time to time.

What do you feel is a misconception of PBIS?

I thought PBIS was supposed to be teacher-led and not micromanaged by the principal. What is a kind way to remind her to let the PBIS team lead it?!

What are some ideas your PBIS schools do to increase attendance? We have a real problem at my school with kids just not coming to school. Missing 25+ days!!
