Continued- I’ve basically had this voice in my head about every 6-9 months to take a look at something more people oriented.. recruiting, hr. I’ve had several conversations over the years with people in the fields that have appealed to me. I always gave myself a chance to give my field a chance, but I just have this nagging feeling this ain’t it. I can do it, but it’s not my biggest strength. Feeling bummed about the money already invested (still have 30k student loans), but I don’t feel bad about my experience. Feel like it would be pretty transferable ?
That CPA is what is hurting you, once you are a CPA that is all future employers look at. I have an accounting degree and did 5 years of accounting in finance. Now I am out of accounting and doing what I enjoy but I still also get that itch to do something new. I think you should take what you want to do then use your skills you have in accounting to use in the role you want.
If you want to transition into HR, you might want to consider Payroll jobs. But I believe that would be a downgrade. You said you are not fulfilled, why is that so?
I know Bank of America and vanguard do a lot of higher level development type programs/career pivot so maybe look into those? I’d recommend applying to jobs you may not qualify for in the sector you want to go into especially if you check the boxes on some of the skills they want and tweak your resume to those jobs. I’ve had luck with google jobs search you can use the filters to really find what you’re looking for. Hope that helps some, Good luck!
I’d also recommended any licenses/certifications you could do to show you have the skills for the HR side…I took the SIE and had no experience in finance (they wanted 1-3 yrs) and I got my job because of my license.
