I’m an Analyst, and I was looking at opportunities at Microsoft as a Business Program Manager. It says it wants you to have 5+ years of experience, but someone I went to college with got that position straight out of undergrad less than two years ago. How true are the requirements at Microsoft?

I switched from patent lit to tech trans in my 3rd year. Happy to answer questions
IPA- In my 3rd year. I actually think it’s better to make the transition sooner than later, so I would recommend you start looking now. It’s often easier to retrain a junior associate in a new practice than a more seasoned one. I had to give back 2 years from my class year to change practices (though my firm eventually gave me 1 back). If you know you want to make the move, there’s no reason to delay.
A1- I worked at an ECVC firm, so my clients were a broad range of startups (from newly incorporated 2 person businesses to multibillion $ unicorns) and VC firms. In any given week I’d work on a wide variety of commercial contracts across the various industries my clients were in, plus IP support for M&A and VC funding deals. The contracts could be anything from NDAs and company PIIAs, to university patent licenses, to marketing and distribution agreements, to biotech development and licensing agreements, etc. My time would be split between talking to clients about their business needs and goals, drafting/redlining agreements, negotiating with opposing counsel, and doing diligence for deals.
