Has anyone used travel cards to pay rent for points? 3% fee seems to undo the benefits. Is it worth it for status or freebies or anything?

Yes I have. Venmo charges 3% fee on the transactions. That said it is a great way to manufacture some spend for sign-up bonuses on Chase. I am currently paying rent with SW Cards because I opened both at the same time and need $5k spend for 110k total miles and free companion pass for wife.

It is worth it for signup bonuses and convenience, but otherwise the costs outweigh benefits.

Unless you have Alliant Cashback visa in which costs are equal to venefits

like

^D1 - How did you get two SW cards at a time?

@P1, you can open a business card as well as a personal card simultaneously. Business card can be registered to sole proprietorship (your name), and you can connect signup rewards from both cards to accumulate in the same rapid rewards account to take advantage of both. Business card rewards 60k points after minimum spend of $3k, personal card is 50k points after same requirement for total of 110k points, which is the requirement to receive SW companion pass.

It’s interesting you ask, because yesterday they changed the policy and strictly prohibited new customers from opening more than one personal credit card. This does not apply to business cards + credit cards.

I do it for the convenience. It's one less thing for me to worry about, literally the only check I write (I use Plastiq). I put it on my Delta Reserve to work toward annual 30k spend for 15k MQM bonus and depending on the year, platinum MQD waiver (not needed this year). Can do the same with a Delta Platinum card too but I'll take whatever advantage I can get for upgrades.

I’m maxing out my 401K, traditional IRA and HSA this year and paying for some house improvements. I have about $750K total investments and very close to $2M net worth, but realize that I am behind on investments if I want to do FIRE. I was focused on paying off huge chunks of my mortgage and managed to whittle it down to $75K left. Would you suggest I go ahead and pay that off this year? Or pause and do a mega back door roth instead? I’m mid 40s. Thanks!

Hello, I’m an LMSW in Michigan. I have 15 years of experience in the field as a clinician, supervisor, and an administrator. I am feeling burnt out and unsure of my future. I’ve flirted with private practice work in the past, but my spouse has been worried about not having affordable healthcare and benefits that each system provides. Is it worth the jump? Does anyone use a brokerage account instead of a checking account? Mine offers a fee free debit/atm card and free checks which I'd rarely use but starting to question whether it is worth maintaining my "big bank" checking account that requires a $1500 minimum balance.

I also have a local credit union checking/savings that I'd use if I need any services or to deposit cash and a HYSA that gets my paycheck, is used for mortgage and credit card payments, and to transfer to checking or investments.

Managing a supply chain is not as simple as it sounds, and I don't think we get paid enough for all the pressure that's being up on us
