Hi there, I have 3.5 YOE working for NHS Finance. I applied to Deloitte Risk Advisory, Public Sector (London, UK) and was successful. Waiting to hear back with package offer but it’s been over 2 weeks - was told they may offer M2 grade, any ideas what this is?
I’m also interviewing for Senior consultant role also at Deloitte. How much would this typically pay?
Torn whether to stay within NHS as I will be getting an internal promotion or move to Deloitte.
What’s the WLB like? Good job security?

No regrets on making the jump, but happy to answer a few of your questions:
Stress: much much lower. There are deadlines but nothing like I dealt with in consulting
WLB: significantly better. I sign off my 5 PM more or less every day
Career progression: in consulting there's often a clear path of x many years with good reviews or x dollars sold for promotions. Large pharma is all gray area, and a lot of people stagnate in level (but will still receive performance-based annual raises). People often get around this by applying to internal positions to move up the ladder as the straight path is more challenging. I think you'll get more variety of experience in consulting but more depth in pharma, both of which will develop you in different ways, and in pharma there's always the opportunity to transfer to another function to get broader experience
Thanks for your thoughtful answer. At this point, consulting just seems like a sales job from many angles except the hard science part of it (which is what I love). The single minded focus on winning clients and keeping them happy just robs the fun out of this role. Also there is little depth ( like you mentioned) unless working with the same client for many years to see their products evolve. Even then, at the end of the day, a consultant is an outsider. It is hear that in pharma there is also scope to change functional groups for breadth.
I never heard pharma people wanting to go into consulting; unless to break into VP level.
It does feel like you have to have a sponsor or patron in pharma to be considered for progression if you don’t directly impact sales.
