Hi everyone,
I have a total 9+ work ex in Devops and Release Management. Did an executive mba with a goal of breaking into Program management but got recruited into Management Consulting . In this company for the past 3 months.
I feel that my overall skills are better off in a TPM/Program Management role.
My overall experience makes me eligible for most PM roles.
My question is how do I prep for a TPM role since I don’t have development or Scrum Master exposure. Amazon India VMware BrowserStack Inc.

As a contractor, I’ll be willing to drop you from the project in a heart beat if you aren’t delivering. From what you said, you don’t know Hadoop but you are looking to work in that space. When a company hire a contractor, we are looking for an expertise, not a body to fill in. If you do not have the knowledge, why would we pay you extra for something we can also ask another associate on the bench to do? And because you are a contractor, I’m not going to spend my time to train you up on the skill because I do not see you as an investment to the firm, and do not worth our time to coach. Less people will care about your existence and you will not be building network either during the project.
It may come as a bit blunt but just my 2c on how firm sees contractors.
Dont
As a contractor you are required to pay the full FICA tax (additional 7%), obtain healthcare, and save for retirement. This will reduce your $60/hour job down to $40/hr. Are you willing to take the risk of less job security and no fallback option if you do get hurt/sick for a minimal pay increase?
Contract to hire is never worth. Not if your current position is at a Big 4 already
Yeah EY I don’t see why you would leave a B4 for a contractor role unless you were trying to go independent. Accidentally applied doesn’t cut it, go back and apply for a full time role if you want to come over.
Fishy
A2 accidentally applied to contractor role....just rolling with it at this point
No pretax benes as a contractor. So pay is higher
wait... what? we hire like crazy for full time unless the candidate opts to contract initially
Good thoughts P1, thank you
$60/hr seems low.
We use contract-to-hire setups to try before we buy. You assume all the risk. $60/hr isn’t high enough to be worth it.
Normally from what I’ve seen the contractor hourly rate doesn’t convert over to salary. They’ll tell you things like now they’re paying for benefits, employment taxes etc...60 an hour comes up to about 120k and coming from EY with a big data background you should be able to swing something in that neighborhood as a full time with 5 years exp.
So true, Director. I was curious worried about this
Staff aug for telecom in Dallas?
Big no
I know someone who was promised something similar and never got offered full time role despite repeated promises.. just left firm bc never got offer after 1.5 years
If you are full time...I would try and stay full time
Something to consider at $80 or more. Not really worth it for anything less.
Hey Bud - I don’t think it’s worth it. This is really fishy Benefits are ~50% of salary, so that puts you at 80K. If you’re the right data background, you could get 100K+ as salary. I’ve never heard of us taking on contractors for these roles when we already have massive amounts of internal talent. They’re more likely to pull someone from the bench than hire
K1/A1 any horror stories/reasons why not?
