Same here! Though, I keep being told we should not have any guilt because it’s a business decision for us all.
How’d it go??
Schedule a time to meet your partner. Inform her that you are grateful for all opportunities and have enjoyed working with her but you have accepted an offer to do (whatever). If you can, try and give 30 days notice (or if you have a really big project deadline coming up, at least one after that). Tell her your plan is to put together exhaustive exit and status memos in all matters and that you would be happy to set a time to meet with either her or other team members who will be assigned to your matters to bring them up to speed, and will also be available via phone and email after you leave for any questions. If you have client contact on matters that are her clients, ask her for guidance on how she’d like to handle informing clients. If you plan to inform or think work should come with you, consult with your state bar association for how to handle.
This used to be me. And in someway still is, but remember it’s just business in the same way partners will pick up leave a firm and leave all their associates behind to try to fend for themselves they don’t expect you to stay forever and even if they did they should have paid you more, treated you better, have you more opportunities, whatever is the reason your leaving.
Also 300 cases they were taking advantage of you. IMO two weeks is plenty of notice there is no reason to give a month. I honestly don’t know why we even give notice....but a month is unnecessary take a break if you have the time.
Offering a month is very appreciated by partners and it sounds like OP is not leaving due to sour grapes. It shows a great deal of professionalism with regard to not leaving clients in the lurch either.
Tell her ASAP (like right now) so she can start hiring someone to replace you. It takes time to post the job, conduct interviews etc. Tell her you will stay long enough to help the transition with the new person and give them memos on all your files.
Mostly leaving because I have no interest in my current practice area. And as much as I like my boss, she can’t change that. We are an ID firm with only 1 area of focus.
I’m able to give 30 days and have 359 cases so better start on that memo now...
**300
Wow..how is that humanly possible? 300?
MP will move on. They know people don’t stay around forever. MP will be sad and disappointed but will get over it.
Same here! Almost three years with my firm and really not sure how my notice will be received.
How’d it go??
