I have been laid off since the end of February and I’ve got to say, this is honestly one of the worst seasons of my life. It was out of the blue and I was completely blindsided. They laid people off for budgetary reasons and since I was the highest paid in my department, I was the one to go. The job hunt has been exhausting and stressful. I broke out in stress hives for the first time in my life. Some days are better than others. Some days I didn’t want to get out of bed or just felt like crying. It definitely takes a mental toll when you’re someone that loved their job and enjoys working.
Yes, happened once to me during Covid and a month before my wedding. I was blindsided. It was tough. The company as a whole was really helpful with keeping me on in a temporary position until I could find another role. I am going through the same thing again now, but I knew it was coming this time. I was in a project role and the project was cancelled. I am again working in a temporary role with the company while looking for a permanent position. It is still a bit scary with the uncertainty. At least I will get severance if I do not find a permanent role within a year.
Yes, it was fairly unpleasant, well I guess that is obvious. The thing was, I had no idea they were going to be laying people off. The company I was working for was bought a year or so before my layoff and everything seemed to be going well. But then one day, two weeks before Christmas, they started laying off all of the leaders and replaced us with cheaper employees. So, yeah, everything about that situation was awful.
Yes. Actually got laid off from my first job out of college. Devastating. Collected unemployment, moved back home. And applied like crazy. Market wasn’t great either. But eventually things came along and worked themselves out.
