Yes. I spend all of my time worrying about people working at other companies. When I heard about layoffs, I instantly conclude the next Great Recession is on the doorstep. Woe are we, who even try. Lest we fall victim to the inevitable end of our economy as we know it, we should all quit now
I grew up enough not to start panic threads about recession.
Lawyer who started working in 2008 enters the room. You will be ok.
My first day as a first year lawyer was the day Lehman collapsed. Whatever “recession” we’re about to go through feels nothing like that.
What is going on!??
Stay positive - we in the UK also have high inflation and rising interest rates and huge energy price increases. But I’ve seen three previous recessions. Good lawyers have always had work and survived.
Had to Google what black rock is. My conclusion: if the company with $20 billion in revenue and billionaire owners is laying people off, then all it demonstrates is the 1% treating people’s jobs like a fantasy sports league and not a true picture of the economy at large.
Are you concerned because layoffs at BlackRock would signal a reduction in deal flow for you?
Yes 😓 Sweating it hard 😢
A lot of companies will look for excuses to reduce their headcount and cut costs.
Why miss out on this opportunity when everyone else is doing it?
Inflation? Raise prices (corp profits at record levels)! Recession? Cut people/costs!
Eh, it’s not that deep. If there’s business, people hire to be able to meet that demand. If demand suddenly falls off, they have to fire or be eaten alive by competition firms that aren’t bloated. Executives would love to hire and sustain as many people as possible, that means they’re continuing to acquire marketshare and the market is growing.
