Have you ever gone through the interview process for an in-house position and then turned the job down? How did you approach it? I’m concerned about the culture/WLB at an in house position but going through the process to learn more.

I have a couple of times. I simply said that I appreciated their time and was very excited about the opportunity but it’s not the right fit for me at this time and I’d be happy to keep in touch for future opportunities. I was legitimately interested in both positions - GC/CLO roles - but comp and location didn’t make sense for me and I said as much when asked.

Yes. Apple. I was honest during the interview process that I was considering multiple companies. Ultimately told them I really appreciated their time but was going to take another offer. They were incredibly kind, as any reasonable company should be. The recruiter (who has since moved on to another role at other company) still emails me periodically.

Yeah just say it’s not a fit. Even more than firm laterals, companies want someone who is in it for the long haul and enthusiastic about the role. They’ll understand.

Happens all the time

Yes. Sometimes I am just going through the motions to practice my interview skills; other times, there has been a disconnect with compensation or culture etc.

In other words, just sort of depends...I'm always applying to places and have my foot in the process through various places but sometimes I'm more seriously looking around than not.

But, I have accepted a role I thought was going to go nowhere and I wasn't at first serious...but I couldn't turn down the offer. You just never know.

go all the way and ask for a salary range beyond the the posted range

Hello guys, I am a ML Engineer by profession and have recently heard about the AI Centre of Excellence at TCS.

I've that the COE team is supposed to guide TCS employees on client end. However, I've also heard that as they do not generate any profits, TCS moves them to client side as soon as possible.

Could anyone please share some insights about work at the AI COE at TCS? How's the team and how's overall growth in terms of skills and payscale? Are there any drawbacks of joining AI COE?

How do you deal with the following - 1) lack of general organization in life, note taking, keeping track of your relationships and 2) attention to detail. These 2 things have been bothering me a lot. We all are smart as hell but silly mistakes such as spelling mistakes, broader checks to be done on the deck is killing me. Also I feel the lack of organization in personal life blows into professional as well. If you are a consultant how do u deal with it ?

If there is any senior staff, or member with credible information on this, please share your 2 cents. The suspense is killing me, and I am sure many of you echo my sentiments here.

So far, I have heard:
- March
- May
- June
- July but with salary effective from April (paid as arrears in July). Something similar for June as well.

For those working in house, how much “from scratch” document drafting are you doing vs. reviewing and revising “outside documents”. For example, if your company wants to enter into a joint venture company with another entity, are you drafting the company agreement “from scratch” or is it based on internal forms? Or are you getting outside counsel to do it?

My company cut staff to 4 days/wk to save funds. I was getting requests from coworkers for docs needed urgently on our day off (fridays). I would oblige them. But then, I learned that those same coworkers had been put back to 5 days because they were deemed “essential“. I felt foolish and decided to stop working on fridays. One EVP (not the GC) in particular has been aggressively texting/calling me on fridays. How Do I tactfully respond? My out-of-office email is not enough of a hint...

Maybe a dumb question for a lawyer, but is it normal to not be allowed to review an invention assignment agreement and post-employment restrictive covenant agreement at the offer letter stage? I’m told they can’t share prior to onboarding (I’ll be asked to sign them then) but I know I’m not going to sign some crazy non-compete so would like to see the drafts before accepting the offer.

Currently working on a three person team in a larger GC group. I lateraled from a different group that did not pay attorneys on an attorney scale. I’m stuck in my old pay scale but have gotten promotions and raises quickly with more on the horizon. A recruiter reached out with a new role for 2-2.5x more than I currently make doing something similar. I love my company and the people I work with but the money isn’t there. Is it worth trying to get a counter to stay if I get the bigger offer?

What would be a typical salary for a junior in house counsel role (3 yoe) at a publicly traded company in a secondary market (think Austin, Tampa, Charlotte)? I’m having a really hard time finding what a reasonable range would be. Most positions I’m applying to require desired salary in the application, and the truth is I’d accept anything north of 125k but don’t want to undersell myself and take a bigger cut than necessary coming from biglaw.
