Hi Fishes, I have been offered by Cognizant Consulting to move to UK for a short term. However I have my permanent braces treatment going on in India. Can anyone guide if Cognizant Consulting (UK) covers dental treatment in insurance. Can anyone also let me know how much does braces treatment cost in London? Cognizant

I was a teacher for 17 years, so not sure if that counts in this context. I left because I did not think I could be effective with kids into my late 60s. Like anything, there are pros and cons. The biggest determination may end up being your supervisor and the atmosphere they create.
The benefits were OK. The pension will not likely be much unless you are young and make a full career there. Partial pensions are peanuts. If you are not in your 20s, then I would plan to continue saving as though you don't have a pension and just let it be a bonus.

That definitely counts, and thanks for sharing that perspective. I’ve also heard that city jobs tend to have some of the best benefits while federal has the least, but your point about pensions only really paying off with a full career is very helpful.
There were times when I considered it. I happen to believe in public service, and I think working for the government can be a worthwhile pursuit. These days, of course, I don't think I'd feel that way. We've got an administration fixated on degrading government workers, to the point where the OMB director is on video saying he wants to cause them trauma. That's just not normal.

That’s a great perspective. I was mostly thinking about it from a work life balance and benefits angle, but you’re right, it’s hard to ignore how hostile the environment feels right now, which can definitely change the calculus.
Not in finance, no. In my college days when I thought I was more interested in policy, I heavily considered it. But I made a big pivot to finance in my sophomore year and never looked back.

I’ve never thought about it but agree that it could be interesting
I’ve met a lot of accountants who moved from public accounting to the IRS as a sort of pre-retirement. They know what they’re going to expect everyday and don’t have long hours. They made good money early on so could afford a pay cut. Idk if I could do it, but I see the draw!

Thanks for sharing, both! Agreed that this may not be the best time to move into a government job, but it’s something I’ve been contemplating as a longer-term option before retirement.
