Have you guys ever had a contract on file/freelance packet? Place hasn’t hired me for freelance yet but wants me to give a W9, direct deposit banking info and sign all these contracts so we can hit the ground running if ever, one day, we do work together. Feels weird.

I’ve been a freelance print production designer for many years, and usually on-site in the before times. Now I work remote, and am finding it uneasy dealing with billing. Before I always billed hourly, which made sense, but it’s becoming an issue now. Some companies don’t have a full days’ work, so it seems wrong to bill full days, and it allows me to juggle projects for different companies, but my billable hours are down. I know I should bill a daily rate, but not sure that will fly. Thoughts?

Any tips from women who had to take maternity leave while contracting? I’d been hoping to switch to a FT role before COVID then well you know...After 3 months I finally landed a couple contract opportunities but no luck yet with a FT role. How do you deal with references as a freelancer? Most of my past gigs - I had managers on paper but it was a formality as I led my own work so don't feel comfortable asking them to be a reference.

Has anyone started an S-corp and later gone full time? Husband has been freelancing full time since last summer. Initially we thought it would be six months before converting to FT, but he’s been extended as an independent contractor until 2023. Ideally that sticks because he’s making north of $300k but he’s been hesitant to go S-corp in case they decide to make him convert. What happens to the S-corp in that scenario?
