All dogs are going to shed, just some less than others. Anything mixed with poodle is probably the lowest shedding. It’s unrealistic to take a dog on a 5 mile run with you - it looks cool in movies but not something that would be recommended in real life.
If you opt for a larger dog, it’s not recommended you “run” with them until they are around 2yo to prevent bone/joint issues. They are still growing!Nothing wrong with 5miles of running if you build up to that incrementally. I have Rhodesian Ridgebacks and for me, they are the perfect breed! Very large dogs like mastiffs and Great Danes can actually be good apt dogs as they like to rest and conserve until it’s “go time”…but are not good runners do to their size and the impact running can have on their body. I would recommend finding an older dog who’s past their puppy phase and is comfortable resting/conserving until it’s time to go for a walk or run.
A robot dog
I got a Maltipoo in April and I love him. No shedding. Hypoallergenic. He has a lot of energy, but he’s also small enough that running around the house or playing fetch down the hallway over and over is good enough exercise for him. Super smart, learns super quick, and the sweetest pup ever.

Before you consider getting a Doodle Mix, read this article:
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/25/us/labradoodle-creator-regret.html
Thank you and definitely, I didn't want the article to completely speak for an entire breed or mix.
I have a miniature schnauzer, and the breed fits your profile exactly. No shedding, chill energy. Sometimes we go for really long hikes, other times we only go outside for bathroom breaks. No matter how much exercise she has, she is chill at home.
Schnauzers are a really smart breed and very loyal. The only con is that they think they are guard dogs, and will bark at the door. With training, my dog grew out of the barking and now she just stands by the door cautiously monitoring the situation 🤣
If you don’t want the dog hair you can’t get a dog. Sorry. All dogs shed (even the doodle mixes). Part of having a dog is fighting with dog hair everywhere. Little dogs tend to be high energy and not good running partners. Giant breeds are low energy and make good apartment dogs but you will have an extra huge amount of hair to contend with. If you decide you still really want a dog, I recommend looking in Petfinder and getting and getting one whose personality will fit your lifestyle.

You sound like you’d fit my category.
I have not done any exercise since the beginning of Covid, never ran once. I live in a 600+ sqf apartment in city, I hate dog /cat hairs (and even my own hairs), and I am a first time dog parent of a mixed, short coated, sweet Labrador who was once an energetic puppy, as all puppies. Now her fav activities to overtake the couch when I am working.
I don’t think id be like this happy if I didn’t adopt her.

I got her when she was 3 months old, for a few months there was hell lot of work to train her, but as she matures & understands better of me, she adjusted herself to my lifestyle. She is nearly 1.5years old now.
That said, she still sheds. But thanks to her her black fur, I hardly see it on furnitures or in cars.
She is a rescue, the organization was already pretty happy that she found a home, no experience was required. Check Peyton’s safe heaven.
Rising Star
I'd go based on rescue dog profile. Not breed. Every dog is different, and the chances of you getting a pure bred dog that is 100% true to the breed is highly unlikely. And even if a dog is sold or adopted as a certain breed, no one can say for certain. My catahoula leopard mix was represented to be an Australian Shepherd.
Breed can tell you about some potential traits (intelligence, fitness needs, size, etc.). But every dog will be different. There are always exceptions.
I got a yorkipoo in April and she is the sweetest! She has her crazy moments but she loves to lounge for the most part so we get along well. I take her outside when I can to play and excessive and she loves it but gets tired when we walk too long and even one time just laid down in the street.
She doesn’t shed at all, very smart and was easy to potty train. I’d recommend any dog mixed with a poodle. They are very smart and usually independent.
Take the American kennel club test. It’ll suggest breeds based on your lifestyle.
Get a bichon
Dogs adjust! I got a small mixed breed dog and she went from a 4000 sq ft home with a big yard to a hotel room when I was in corporate housing for 3 months. If you’re in a high rise, I wouldn’t get a puppy. They squat and lift a leg so quickly - can’t imagine having to usher them into an elevator before getting them outside!
