Highly capable?
That’s literally the only thing that matters. Would hire in a heartbeat.
While I agree it is an outdated way of thinking, it’s not a stigma that will change overnight.
For some of the proposals we work on, the requirements for personnel tend to specifically list “must have bachelor/master degree in _____” and thats hard to bypass if we want to win the business.
A lot of clients have this requirement. We are in the business of working with clients. So if the clients need it, we need it.
The team I used to work at at Deloitte our lead partner didn’t have a college degree who started her career as a hairdresser.
Massively outdated way of thinking 🤦♂️ If they can do the job to a high level and have a portfolio demonstrating previous experience, I see no reason to not hire this person
The issue is trying to get your foot into the door without going to uni. In this case though, the person has past experience and if they qualify in terms of competency and skill, then I see no reason a degree needs to be a requirement for an experienced hire.
How’d they get into the interview process at Deloitte with no college? That alone is pretty crazy. Idk I’m back and forth on this one
Deloitte UK has the brightstart scheme which is essentially an apprenticeship for those who don't want to go to university
If someone has the experience that proves their capability I would hire them (assuming I had that decision making power).
Challenge is if you don’t have a degree it may be tough to get relevant experience. Definitely not impossible and it’s becoming more common.
Its rare but not impossible. Saying from experience
