You don’t need much more experience than a degree to be a scientist I at most biotech/pharma. Just start applying! Curiosity, passion, and an interest in the career is usually enough. Try to reformat your resume to show off research skills, any special projects, etc. we just hired an entry level bench scientist at my company and his work experience was 6 months at an unrelated company and then his bachelors. There’s always a need, you just might have to move closer to a large manufacturing site or HQ.
Don’t be too discouraged right now either. It’s probably not your application, many biotech companies are struggling and laying off / closing sites. There will likely be a job boom in 6 months or so once (hopefully) revenue starts going up again and companies can rehire the workforce they laid off this year.
Agree with PM1. The job market’s just really in a rut right now. Companies are hesitant to borrow money to expand because of high interest rates. Even VCs are being cautious. New graduates are competing with people that got laid off for few open positions. On LinkedIn I’ll see postings for jobs that require pretty advanced lab techniques and there’s 300+ applicants.
Also agree about the location. You have a higher chance of landing a job at a biotech hub. Your $14/hr offer is low though regardless of where you are. Is this a lab technician position?
If you’ll learn new skills that can make your CV stronger in this new position, I guess you can consider it. But if you’re not going to learn anything at all, don’t even think about it. Walk away and keep applying.
I’m wanting to take a break before applying to medical school and save up. Though this lab is a tech position, but I think I’m starting to agree with your last statement.
Which state do you live in?

It depends on where you live more than anything else. I assume you have an undergrad with a little exp. Such roles in boston pays 80-100k and midwest 35-40k.
Sadly, I’m actually really experienced in a lot of experiments and biotechnology. I have my basics PCR and RNA/DNA extractions, but I was able to specialise in flow cytometry, IHC, imageJ, and currently learning digital pathology 😢
