Bring it to HR and shut it down.
That’s seriously messed up. The other staff should say something to a higher up or HR. The firm could be sued for discrimination over those types of remarks, especially if the staff feels like it’s creating a hostile work environment. Maybe the senior was joking, but I’m sure the staff who asked to be able to attend his religious service was probably offended.

No obligation to tell HR. I’d tell the receiver of the message that you support them and will be a witness if they want to go to HR.

Yes, this is between the Sr and the staff. But you can go to the staff and offer support and backup if they go to HR.
Even if it was meant as a joke, it was completely inappropriate and tone deaf. I would approach the staff first. If he was offended, then encourage him to discuss with the senior or speak with the manager on your team. If their responses aren’t satisfactory or if you think they wouldn’t respond well to this approach, you should feel comfortable going to HR about it. That’s what they are there for. We can’t say we are inclusive and tolerant if our people are not
What the fuck... that’s super inappropriate and I’d definitely say something to the senior about it.
What is wrong is not speaking up and allowing this behavior to continue. You can say something to the People Team or the partner if you didn’t feel comfortable confronting the senior. You can also let your fellow staff know you heard it and it was wrong and you have their back. That kind of intolerance is not EYs culture. If you don’t speak up it will become the culture and that is not what we want
