Had a recruiter reach out to me from AWS for a Cloud TAM role on the West coast. $100-160k appears to be the base salary range. 3yrs exp is the requirement. I work as a Cloud Architect now for gov in GCP. 3yrs Cloud exp. I have worked in AWS a bit and have the Associate SA cert. Is this a good fit and what could I ask for in total comp? 3.5 years and ur only looking to be paid 87k? Why if u don’t mind me asking
I think I just assumed I should expect to get paid less than in consulting? Plus it is at a University... And also I've never really had to negotiate a salary! Accenture was my first position out of undergrad. So any recommendations you might have would be very helpful!
Universities have money trust me. Do not sell yourself short thinking that they don’t especially if it’s a private university. You should not be getting paid as much as me, someone who has 0 experience, when you have 3.5 years experience.
Shoot high. Ask for 100, even 120 and then they will come down lower and you negotiate. Also do your research on Glassdoor.
University compensation is often structured differently with VERY good benefits. If it's a good university with plenty of money, you might be able to get high salary and great benefits. If it's an average university, you may have to take a hit on salary for the amazing WLB and benefits.
In my experience, even excellent universities don’t pay as well, but benefits are great. And they value degrees. If telnet have tuition remission, work towards an advance degree if that’s your goal. Many have pay bands publicly available, or accessible. When I was hiring at one, hiring managers had to write detailed justification for bringing people on at higher than 50% of the pay band.
You’re hanging yourself from the start by considering a Business Analyst Role and having 3.5 years of consulting experience. You will be doing mundane work if you’re not at Manager level at least. Universities are slow and risk averse so you’ll bore yourself to death by joining at the bottom of the food chain there. Ask your consulting colleagues who work in Higher Education Transformation how it is like. Still, if you get a better position you can ask for a better salary.
You should be asking 90-95k.
NY is hella expensive
So expensive! This is so helpful. Thank you!
How much have you guys got paid the last two years and at what firm? Seems low...
Thank you everyone! Really appreciate your responses. I've increased my range and let the recruiter know!
oplz ask for more. I have only 1 year experience, no tech or data background at all, and get 85K already.
Colleague - I’d agree but universities don’t pay consulting salaries but make up for it in benefits, flexibility, and stability.
