What do you want to do in REPE? I’m not in private equity but my company lends to developers/ and other private equity operators. REPE can be family sized to large institutions. I’d think the best way is by networking, try to find REPE head hunters.
I’m interested in being on an investment team in an acq or AM role. The goal is to land a spot at a medium sized growing company- not a small family office nor a big Blackstone or Blackrock etc.
Do you have any tips to start back up with networking? I’m currently reaching out to my former coworkers and trying to connect with folks via LinkedIn at companies that I’m interested in. Not finding much initial success with cold outreach in the latter. Any tips on where to find head hunters?
From my experience, if you’re open to smaller cities think Des Moines or Columbus and can get a gig there fa year or two then pretty easy to transition more well known names.
Thanks! I’ve been trying to get ahead on the curve for that. Hoping that it’s a numbers game with networking
I’m confused. You say your venture doesn’t relate to REPE but then you ask how to transition back into the industry? Coming from a development background (individually capitalized deals) I would probably spend time building relationships with brokers to get deal flow and doing the same with potential capital sources (banks, HNW investors, institutions, etc.).
In my experience it is hard to find roles at smaller to medium size firms posted on LinkedIn, indeed, etc.
I would suggest looking at working with a recruiter/headhunter if you are open to live anywhere. I would also rank a few of the areas you want to live and start looking for REPE firms around that area. Its tough since so many REPE firms don’t advertise themselves well to the general public so you really have to do your research.
