Hello. My mid-year review is coming up soon. My boss has been on partial sabbatical the last 3 months, so I have been covering for her. In this first half of the year, the other person on our 3 person team left, so I had to cover that. I have also had to train 2 people that ended up not working out or quitting. This will be my 6th year. I am an AVP at Credit Suisse in Raleigh and am currently making about 72K. Just trying to gauge if I should ask for a raise in this upcoming meeting.

I think it’s not just about covering, but how you performed during the period. Do you think you successfully achieved the goals you were asked to do plus the work those other people would be doing?

I’d say the only thing against you is that the people who you trained didn’t stay. A huge part of a senior role job is to recruit and retain people. It might sound unfair and a bit out of your control, but it often comes with the role.

If you believe you consistently delivered above your current grade and that the fact those people quit is unrelated to your leadership then there is no harm in asking for a raise and/or promo.

like

Hi. Thank you for the response. You bring up a couple good points. Yes, I do believe that the goals were achieved during that this time period.

Also, the part of the people leaving would usually be a bad sign. In this case however, the first person was a contractor that didn’t know how to use excel, and the second had to leave for personal reasons.

I might go ahead and ask my manager what they think. It just never seems to be the right time to ask for a raise, if that makes sense.

I’ve got about 20 years cross channel experience in marketing, split between big brands and startups, and I’m considering pivoting into a data science/data analyst role. I know it will initially be a step back in comp but is it at all realistic for a person with certificate level experience in data analysis but a decent marketing management background to expect $150-200k comp or is that mostly for degreed candidates (or not realistic at all)? Any guidance here is greatly appreciated.

How are the salary hikes at nagarro? I heard the hikes has decreased! If yes what can I expect after a year? I am 4 year experienced

When I moved in-house a year ago as a BigLaw mid-level, I took a 45% pay cut, far more than I was comfortable with (although I was fine with a 20-30% cut). I took the job because it was a great role and I was focused on making the jump in house and developing the skills I wanted, which required me moving away from my firm practice area. Now that my year-end review is coming up, how do I ask my company for a significant pay raise (not just a 2-5% inflation-matching raise)?

I realized a slow pace at work is really bad for me. A couple years ago I was experiencing burn out from my fast paced job supporting transactions, and believed by moving to a slower job in a lower cost area, I would be sailing off to the sunset. Wrong, I spend weeks following up with other teams, often times they forgot what we discussed, so I spent 50% if the time reminding them of the topics and next steps. I spend most of my time writing memos no one will read.

I have 3 YoE and would be moving from engineering. the HR person asked me what my salary expectations were I was caught offguard and said I would expect it to be at least what I make now (around 100k). Im now worried theyll lowball me because I really shouldve asked for 120+bonus (I think this is market rate?) But they have salary bands they follow right? So if they pay consultants 140 usually would they offer me 100k?
