Microsoft is hiring an account executive and I’m really interested in the role. I have B2B sales experience in a different industry, but my skills include lead generation, prospecting, account management, negotiating, etc (all within the C Suite and other decision makers).
Would appreciate knowing if this is something I have a shot at with no tech sales experience and what I could expect for promotional opportunities and compensation.
Thanks for the help!

That is low. I'd look at SaaS companies that every company needs. Look at Repvue. For SDR rep positions, try Tableau, Salesforce, Gong, ZoomInfo, Outreach, AWS, DocuSign, Pitchbook, Qualtrics, Extrahop, Orum, Slalom ... ETC. My starting was 72k but I ended up making 6 figures my first year out of college. Hustle is real for the 6 figures. But career growth and learning is awesome.
Thank you!! I just applied for Qualtrics ! It means a lot!
You won’t see a six figure OTE offer if this is your first SDR role. $60k ote is pretty awful but if it’s all you have, take it. I don’t think anyone has the most amazing SDR role their first time around but once you’re in, you’re in. do 6-8 months at this place and keep it moving
I'd ask for at least 65k OTE in tech sales, with $50k in base for your first sales role. Ask how many people hit quota at the company and you'll know whether you'll make the OTE or exceed.
My company is currently on a hiring freeze for SDR/BDR’s right now.
I was with Adobe and the BDRs had an OTE of 100K.
Hi,
Firstly 60.000 OTE is for 100%. While working as a SDR consistantly hit 200%, so you could "easily" be looking at higher number. Top this with some fast level-increases and chances to move into even better paid jobs (given that you exceed your targets - which you should, since you are a "grinder"). So there's that.
I would be much more concerned about finding a company that can give you a clear direction and progression in your career.
5 years in at MS I have kept my head down, paid my dues and are now hitting +100.000 per year on base-pay alone. I tribute this to NOT look for the "big payday"/focus on money. When your employer sees your worth and that you can cope and stay consistent - they WILL pay up!
Hope this makes sense and helps :-)
Best of luck in your endevours!
Thank you so much though!!!
