Hey 4th Grade teachers! What are some of the online tools/platforms you used during distance learning that you really liked? We use Schoology as the main platform in our district. I also used Flipgrid and ClassDojo but I heard ClassKick was better. Anyone use this before?

Never heard of ClassKick. We mainly use Classroom but I Flipgrid and Screencastify. In my kids district I teach summer school and we used Seesaw for virtual and what I saw of it, I liked. I had students grade1-4.

ClassKick is like ClassDojo - it's an app that lets teachers, and parents connect via text (but without giving my number away - they get a code like they do with SeeSaw) Students get their own accounts and can use it to record themselves, answer questions, etc... I used Dojo a lot this year as a portfolio, reading fluency, and for behavior - parents were able to see behavior issues in class if I marked any. It's a really cool app. I heard ClassKick is similar and one of my teammates wants to try it out - but not sure if I want to veer in a new direction right now if ClassDojo is working for me. Thanks for your feedback!

I didn’t use flipgrid much but I def want to use it more. I also want to use Vocaroo for running records/fluency checks periodically.

Oh! I never have heard of Vocaroo! What is that like and is it easy to use?

I plan on using screencastify or something similar to record lesson videos. I’ve used Seesaw for the past 3 years, and would like to continue to use it as my base, but the team I’m moving up to uses google classroom

I completely get that. Communicating via technology isn't very personal feeling like a phone call or face to face. We know this year is going to be different and we just have to remember that. Having all new things to deal with doesn't help. We also had two new curriculums last year. I do know that teachers are one of the most adaptable kinds of people out there and we've got this!

I'm almost done with my master's and right now we are discussing the knowledge gap that happens in 4th grade with our lower-class students. They know or have the skills for how to read (for the most part) but seem not to be able to comprehend what they are reading due to the fact that they don't have background knowledge like their upper-class peers - which is due to life experiences. Have you noticed this in your classes? I have but didn't realize why it was so hard to catch them up.

Just wondering we are adopting science curriculum this year, piloting mmh and studies weekly, any thoughts?

Let’s hear your stories. What has been successful for you so far this year and has brought a smile to your face? What has been the biggest challenge with DL, hybrid, face to face, or teaching/ life in general?

Did anyone else adopt the new Florida Wonders curriculum? We just adopted it this school year, and I teach 4th grade. My team and I have not found a good flow, schedule, or whatever you want to call it. We feel like it teaches too many skills in one lesson, and we are not able to truly teach anything “deep” enough for students to master. Does anyone have any insight? What do you do? Do you like the curriculum? Why or why not? Would you be willing to share what you do weekly/daily? Thanks!
