I live in an apartment complex, the landlord/manager of the building are refusing to comply with USPS regulations and renumber our mailboxes to match the apartments (there is no rhyme or reason to it currently. Mailbox 1 is apartment 1240, mailbox 2 is apartment 1435, etc.). So USPS suspended mail delivery service to the building. LL knew this was an issue as early as July, received multiple notices in Dec. that if they failed to cure mail would be suspended on Feb 8, and didn’t notify us until after mail had been suspended for days. I have read every page of the Postal Operations Manual - there’s no question it’s their responsibility to fix at their cost. Postal Inspector is now involved, they’re going to spend more time and money fighting a losing battle than just fixing the mailboxes. I honestly hope they get hit with obstruction of mail under the USC.
But in the meantime, I want to break my lease without a termination fee and them sending me to collections and ruining my credit. They are aggressive with that according to court records. Idk if there’s any civil damages for obstruction of mail?
I’d also refer my neighbors who I’m friends with.
TIA!
