Hey fish, I’m coming up on a year post PhD and this job has drained a lot out of me. There’s not a lot I enjoy: overpromising partners, annoying clients, endless iterations (from either client or partner), poorly scoped KOL interviews, long hours… The only reason I haven’t quit is the US healthcare system’s reliance on employer provided insurance. Where can I go with ~1YOE post PhD? It feels like nearly every job requires a lot more and I just don’t have it in me to push through another 1-2y…

Can prob easily get senior manager role in pharma

like

I think Manager is achievable with one YOE. I’d suggested dedicating time every weekend to job searching and applications. It may not be easy but you’re coming from a firm with a good reputation and if you’re flexible in what you want to do and what type of company you you want to work for (e.g., diagnostics, medtech) that may open more doors for you

Are you me?

Same boat. I feel like the most difficult year is the first one, then things get a bit better. Feel free to DM me.

It also sounds like you’ve only experienced remote work during covid - may be worth trying what it’s like to work in teams in office too if that’s happening soon. A lot of the fun of this type of work is lost when you’re not collaborating with teammates in person.

Do PhDs start at the same level as MBAs at LEK?

I am told it gets better at M level (~2y post MBA)

205k+ base. Happy with $. But unhappy with the work life balance.

I wonder whether $180k in industry @ 9 to 5 job is better route than chasing the elusive partnership role. Even if we get it eventually is the marginal return vs wlb cost worth it? Thoughts?

I have a partner who routinely ignores emails or responds to them several weeks later. He has to approve every single document sent to the client or the court, which means you have a physically go to his office to ask him to review something. Half of the time you go to meet with him in person, he’s either on a call or otherwise busy. I find that this basically creates more work and makes meeting deadlines extremely difficult. Is this normal?

I want to know why recruiters ask me in an interview if I am looking at other opportunities, or if I am interviewing at other companies. If I say yes they will ask at what stage I am.
