How can I set the stage this year to negotiate a lower billable hours expectation instead of a raise? As a woman I'm hesitant to be open about my reason: I want more time at home with my kids. I lateraled to this firm a year ago for WLB and they are indeed flexible on WFH which helps. Salary is a bit below average for mid-size firms like mine in my area, and I didn't get a raise or bonus this year because I didn't hit the billable target (1900). Ideally I'd keep my salary but go to 1600 hours.
Back on the market and I’m coming to find two things: 1. Less desirable agencies are the ones who want people back on-site soon, with no wiggle room for remote work. 2. These same agencies want to pay salaries based on COL in the city where the agency is based even if you’re working/living from another market in the interim. Example: Midwest based agency paying Midwest salaries to folks living in places like NY, SF, LA. 🧐🧐🧐🧐
If I am now a resident of other state but my office is based in nyc, how will I be taxed? Also Since we have been doing remote work is the income now earned in nyc or in the new state?
Seeking an exit opportunity from Accounting/Finance consulting (Looking for Remote work).
How can I not be awkward at conferences where all my remote coworkers that I've never met will be there? I have an issue with awkward silence and not knowing what to say or how to act.
If I ask for remote after accepting offer from Accenture, will they agree? If they do, will they reduce package??
How do you handle keeping the kids at home and both parents WFH? Do you take turns? Specifically, do you explain to your teams that babies need tending to throughout the day?
Anyone in Hell’s Kitchen? Just moved in and looking for coffee buddies to to have some breaks during WFH :)
Hello 👋 I’m investigating activewear trends at the moment, I’m really interested in knowing what brands you’ve turned to during the pandemic / wfh. Ive a short 2 minute survey link below and would love if you filled it out! 🙌 https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf0m49RBsiCACBf-PmpCB5AeQvzSYpqfu16ui34LcJcIVrOHQ/viewform
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-03-22/bosses-are-clueless-that-workers-are-miserable-and-looking-to-leave?srnd=premium Wonder what the numbers would be for consulting - naturally higher because the tenure is low to begin with but curious on what it would be above that due to the pandemic and WFH.
How do you all think remote working is influencing gender dynamics in your teams? I wonder if/how relying on virtual comms with no in-person interactions will help or hurt things.
All clients need to explain conference call etiquette when WFH to their employees. So far I’ve heard people washing dishes, talking to their spouse and kids, making lunch, and playing with pets...
Anyone having a hard time to focus on the job during the day too? Sometimes I just lost myself in a task or meeting (Too much time in WFH doesn't helped) Any tips or advice to overcome?
Does anyone organise one-on-one virtual catch ups within your team? Would males to be weirded out if a female associate reached out just for a catch up...? 🥴 I started the job few weeks ago (WFH) so I never really had a chance to make friends within my team. Being extroverted, I feel odd not having coworkers just to comfortably chat to at work. My only work friend is the only other girl in the team.
Imagine if this virus hit thirty years ago. If it wasn't for the internet, allowing WFH and communications, the economy would basically collapse. It could be alot worse.
How long do you think the wfh can go after most of the population will get the vaccine? Do you think that once we’re back to normal consultants will start travelling again as before or wfh will still be encouraged?
I did my second natural cycle IUI today and the two week wait commences. If it doesn't work, we will be going to IVF. Thankful for remote work as it allowed me to have privacy over my schedule.
If WFH became a permanent option and you didn’t have to go into the office or travel to client sites, would you stay in the city you’re currently in? If not, where would you move to?
I am moving classrooms, and my new classroom has a bathroom. I’m looking for literature that discusses bathroom etiquette and any other suggestions you might have for using a bathroom in a class.
Remote meeting tech: What are your recs for external mic/speaker? I’d bought a Jabra 510 and had issues with the mic sound quality 🤨
Need genuine advice. Been planning to move abroad permanently for quite some time but due to pandemic situation, all plans were put to rest. I am having FOMO seeing others still trying to get things done by the way of finding jobs and applying for them. Should I apply too? Not sure how employers are acting towards foreign workers atm.
I interviewed for an L6 Sr program manager role and was offered an L5 program manager position at amazon. I have 5 YEO and a masters. I saw the L5 role only asks for 2 YEO. TC for the L5 is slightly more than I make now. Would accepting this be a good long term move? Would I be taking a step backwards?
How’s Havas Chicago culture for creatives these days? Haven’t heard much since the “Employee Wall of Fame” stuff in 2018.
Anyone wonders what happens if you are working in US as non resident alien and got COVID19? Nobody is going to care? 😕
What practice areas (if any) would be a natural move for a mid-level commercial real estate/finance associate? I started trying to leave my firm in February and, at the time, was super in-demand. Now, with Covid, commercial real estate is slow & I think I'll be stuck where I am for at least another year if I don't make a practice area shift. Are there any other practice areas where my experience would be valuable?
What’s a reasonable signing bonus to ask for. Going from Deloitte Manager to SVP of a larger firm that’s looking to get into consulting. 215k base.
Best books about product management for a good exit to industry? I already have an MBA and PMP but looking for a refreshed perspective since it’s been years since my formal education. Currently reading “Product Managements Sacred Seven” but it’s geared toward the startup world. I am in healthcare and not looking for a startup role. TIA!!!
Thoughts on getting a MS in Systems Engineering? Is it still relevant/competitive against a MS in Comp Sci/Data Science for Product Management/Startup roles? What exactly can you do with it? Assuming a top program.
My work was very understaffed prior to COVID. I hope the healthcare industry learns from this experience and increases staffing appropriately.
What is the culture like at Facebook? Thinking of exiting into a product owner role or just general pmo type of role. Good company to work for?
Where’s the best consultancy to work at for digital people? Who has a great culture and supports there people? Convince me why I should work at your company.
Next week FAANG earnings begin with NFLX and following 2 weeks all the big boys go. Are earnings going to be catalyst for next leg up or next leg down? I don’t think better than expected works anymore like it did in the summer. One thing to note though all the major tech companies but Apple are trading below where they did at Q3 earnings.
Just got confirmation on a different Fish Bowl thread that R/GA NY recruiters only take interviews as a formality to check diversity boxes. That they already have their picks ready to go.
It’s well known that the difference in work culture in Europe vs US is quite different. Can you comment on some of the differences when it comes to work/life balance, competitiveness, client dynamics
I’m in trading operations. I graduated during COVID and it has been my ultimate goal to become a trader. I know it’s insanely difficult to pivot from back office to trading but I would welcome any advice on making that transition.
