I just got let go after less than a year at this job and I'm actually relieved. I could not keep up with the amount of work they expected from me. My Dr. sent me to a cardiologist because my BP and heart rate were spiking...that was mere months into the job.
Last day is tomorrow and I cannot wait to catch up on all the sleep.
Thank you! Cardio said I was in fantastic shape and everything looked great, thank goodness, and that the elevated BP and HR was totally situational. Was a wakeup call though! Never again.
Agreed and my current manager is obsessed with being at the office. She thinks it shows her excellent work ethic but to me it’s clear she has an unhappy home life
Absolutely agree! I had a VP who kept saying she gated people working remotely because you absolutely must be in the office. She hated her kids and I am sure they felt the same about her. And she expected everyone to put the company first above everything. I also soon recognized that she seemed to dislike anyone on the team who had a spouse (she didn’t) and family that they loved.
fam say no more. been underworking since 2008
“Match your productivity to your wage, barely do your job” 🤣
Pls send this memo to corporates.
You never want to tell your potential hiring manager that you value work life balance and that you cap out at 5 pm (or whenever the end of work is). I guarantee you it won’t be in your favor. The comment sounds logical but they want to hear that you’ll work and die in the office and potentially go overtime and not petition for the time 1/2 LOL.
We should definitely be rethinking what work is and it's purpose. All of us whether we like it or not are replaceable to any business. No hole will be left that will not be filled within less than 30 days. But your family and friends will miss you for the rest of their lives. Work for or create an environment that helps you thrive, not chasing the carrot for decades only to find it unfulfilling. You are worth more than any job or title. Merry Christmas to all.
Overwork is leaving the office at 3am in the morning and the partner tells you to be back by 8:30am. This was it for me.
That’s absolutely ridiculous even if the partner was in the call with you at 3:30am. Also depends on how often this happens too.

Wage slavery the more inflation on everything the more they can keep you working more because you have no choice. We are trained from elementary school all the way to university to be good employees and shut the hell up giving most of your awake hours to an employer who makes millions while you’re stressed, tired, develop health issues…..Capitalism as it’s best money above all🤬
Couldn’t have put it better. Thank you comrade HR!
The public accounting Partners and managers here definitely going to bash you .

anyone who "wears burnout" as a badge of honor doesnt know what burnout actually is
its like saying "i cant stand those aholes who pull their shirt down to show off their chemo port"
Top performers don’t stop at 5.
Depends on job I would think. Some top performing traders do indeed stop at 5.
why be loyal to a company that doesn’t care about you??
i’m only loyal to myself and my bag x
Rising Star
💯there’s no loyalty from employers why employees should be loyal. This loyalty relationship is myth. It’s just a job and they don’t care about you, why should you. If you’re not treated with respect, dignity and the environment is toxic don’t stay it doesn’t get better. I tired of seeing so many horrible bosses and organizations 🥵
Overworking is often a sign of poor time management, planning, and strategy skills because it can indicate that an individual is not effectively organizing their workload and prioritizing their tasks. This can lead to a feeling of being constantly behind or overwhelmed and may result in the need to work longer hours in order to complete all of the necessary tasks.
Effective time management involves setting clear goals, creating a plan to achieve those goals, and then allocating time and resources appropriately. It also involves being able to prioritize tasks and delegate responsibilities when necessary. Good planning skills can help an individual anticipate potential issues or challenges and come up with strategies to overcome them.
When an individual lacks these skills, they may find themselves struggling to keep up with their workload and turning to overworking as a way to try and catch up. This can be detrimental to their physical and mental health and can lead to burnout and decreased productivity in the long run.
I call BS
This is why in some workplaces, they’re implementing 4-day work weeks. It’s weird you would think working remotely would somewhat solve that issue, but you know, work/life balance. I’m lucky enough working for a company that is flexible, but I know that’s not the norm. Hustle culture is overrated. With everyone scaling back, maybe everyone needs a reset to find the next big thing.

I did to my team! 😂
I once had a tax partner who had a heart attack during tax season .
Overworking and staying late in office is not a virtue
100% agree. Overworking is destructive to quality of life.
Hmmmm
But some managers actually want this and criticize those that don’t. How can I be seen with just doing my job and being compared to someone that over works and goes above and beyond?
