A little bit of motivation for us all.

This is our bowl leader
It's the "loves this" for me

Definitely not bragging or showing off …

And now.. let me take a selfie!

I cringe every time see criticism like this - find something better to critique lol. There's nothing wrong with showing your vulnerability. If they don't find it weird to share, why do you care?
And this guy’s “book an appointment” link doesn’t also seem desperate?
The purpose of LinkedIn is to build and maintain a network of professional connections to bolster job searches, career development, and business growth.
What a schmuck.
People seem to be really polarized on the "Open to Work" frame.
I don't use it myself, but I would much rather see the photo badge - a tasteful, dignified, discreet, signal -- than sad selfie adorning a several hundred word screed on somebody's jobless financial woes, failing marriage, pitiful children, rehomed pets, and Venmo pleas. It is much less cringeworthy to me.
But what do I know?
Agreed!
A past colleague reached out when I added this banner to my page 6ish years ago. I ended up moving to his company and it was a huge improvement in environment & pay. No regrets for using the banner.
Hell yeah! I love this, thank you for sharing ✨
I get where he’s coming from- even if it feels harsh. That mindset does exist, especially when it comes to lowball offers or people making snap judgments.
LinkedIn’s gotten more users, and the meaning of the “Open to Work” banner isn’t as clear-cut anymore. I wouldn’t make the same assumptions he does, but in business, perception matters. Maybe it’s time LinkedIn gave folks a more discreet way to signal they’re looking.
There’s a setting where you can make it visible only to recruiters and people outside of your company but it’s just unfortunate that this is what a simple banner has come to. So many people have lost their jobs to layoffs
He's 100% right though.
This is a 100% accurate take (desperation) and has been the correct logic for over 3 years. It definitely turns most recruiters off. Not sure why people are just realizing this now.
@TAC 100% agree and I champion your input. Unfortunately many others in your position don’t agree. Especially in advertising, PR, and marketing.

Why does LinkedIn still keep the banner then? Better not offer it
