Is there a good spot/website I can look for a “checklist” of things to do before going freelance? Or can any of you fine people help me out? Would love to hear from creatives in particular.

Any day you aren’t working is a day you’re prospecting for new business. Make a spreadsheet with daily entries. X emails/calls per day. Whatever is manageable. Year one will be slow, but if you’re good and professional people will want more

There really isn't one out there but I'm happy to share what I've learned/did on my own.

Only went freelance about 8 months ago so everything's still pretty fresh.

If you're interested I'll share my info. NYC here if it matters.

@SC that would be amazing. If it’s easier to email you can reach me here k.freelance.design@gmail.com (not my real email, I just set it up for FB purposes). Would love to here how you took the leap.

My old employer asked me if I wanted to come back to the company as a manager. The pay will likely be much better and the position holds more responsibility than I’ve had before, so overall it would be a step up. The issue is I left the company because of an abusive manager who constantly put me down and made me feel like I wasn’t doing anything right. If I come back I’d be working under her again. I’m torn because the opportunity is great but the stress was awful. Continued in comments…

I’ve been a freelance print production designer for many years, and usually on-site in the before times. Now I work remote, and am finding it uneasy dealing with billing. Before I always billed hourly, which made sense, but it’s becoming an issue now. Some companies don’t have a full days’ work, so it seems wrong to bill full days, and it allows me to juggle projects for different companies, but my billable hours are down. I know I should bill a daily rate, but not sure that will fly. Thoughts?
