Hi all. Got 1 YOE at EYP doing mostly CDDs and strategy work. Prior to that came from uni with a MSc in mathematics, studied AI/ML as well. Is it too late for me to pivot to data scientist role or similar? Thinking about not been “in the game” for a year and perhaps not as attractive on the market as a recent graduate

You've been out of the market for a year. Probably time to retire.

Nah half of DS (not mle or researcher) I know were transitioned from other roles, you are fine

like

No, its just the beginning for you with 1 YOE. You can switch to DS role. I would begin with finding role possibility within same Account/Project.

Great advice, thanks a lot for the response.

You have studied ML/AI but do you have experience applying it? Either find a way to do that work in your current role or contribute to project or do a personal project. What sells at data science interviews is real world experience using data to solve a business problem.

Nope haven’t worked with AI/ML, went straight from school to EYP Strat. No real opportunities here to do this type of work so will have to do some stuff on my personal time. Thanks for the advice!

I’m leaning towards the PE firm bc it’s more hands-on, faster learning curve, and higher TC, but the VC role seems to have a better WLB and generally sounds cooler (getting exposed to VC vs continuing in the corporate world). Hey all! I was told I might get help here! I got an offer at a mid pharma for a strategy role that I’m intending to take. Partner is threatening to sue because the job offer is from a direct client that I work with. I’ve received legal counsel and have no apparent liabilities in any of my or my clients contracts (non-compete, non-solicitation, etc.). Unfortunately, that doesn’t prevent me from getting sued because I still have to defend it. Has anyone else ever been in a similar situation?

I’m a 2nd year and effectively just ran a deal on my own with the partner. It ran smoothly, I got praise from the partner, and the partner said that they trust me to do most stuff without their sign off (so no need to check with them in future unless I’m really unsure). Generally there is one or two mid levels above me, and I find it way harder to do my job when they are managing me.
