Hi all - looking for advice / thoughts on the market for a junior real estate associate in Austin? May be relocating and would most likely need to change firms

Currently I’m working as a junior front-end developer building and designing emails/ landing pages. I like what i do right now tho, i feel more passionate about analyzing things, coming up with new ideas/ strategies. So i’m thinking to develop my career as a Digital marketer who can design/ code in 5 years. Digital marketing is so broad, dont know where to start. I have a little experience in Google analytics & Marketo. Any recommendations or advice ? Thank you!

Has anyone here transitioned from small/midsize firm to Big Law? How was the transition and impact on WLB

If buy the partners you work with regularly a holiday gift, how much do you spend? Usually I get baked goods or food items which you can’t tell the actual amount spent on. This year, though, I’d like to support local restaurants by encouraging people to order takeout—hence, giving gift cards.

Do most firms start reporting years in September or January? Prior firm did an August year for counting hours and then another did January (both Amlaw 200). Looking at an Amlaw 100 to lateral in the fall (so trying to anticipate how much of the year I’ll have). I’ll ask what bonus/reporting year but just curious if most follow the same.

My options are 1) wait it out where I am in hopes to switch to L&E or 2) in house oil and gas industry transactional work. What would you do and why? I’m a non-TX immigration attorney mentoring a UT student who went to my undergrad. He’s done incredibly well in OCI and pre-OCI. Thus far, he’s landed interviews with (all in Houston): Baker Botts, Sidley Austin, Kirkland, Winston Strawn, Reed Smith, Norton Rose, and Locke Lord. Also Perkins Coie in Dallas. He’s leaning transactional, but also open to litigation. Any insights/advice on these firms in the TX market? Any to avoid?

I work in energy in New Mexico and am just wondering if it's smarter to move to Dallas or Austin to practice. Family is tired of New Mexico and the wife wants a better community to live in so that's a factor too. Open to all opinions.
