Senior attorneys at v100, how common is it for attorneys who start at small firms to lateral to biglaw? Have you worked with any? Conventional wisdom is always that if you don’t start there it’s hard to “trade up”. My coworker and I just did it to two different great v30 firms, and I’m wondering if it’s really that uncommon? I'm entering my final year of law school but am going part time since I work full time as a paralegal. I have been a paralegal for more 10+ years and I want to open my own firm after I pass the bar.

I've worked at a lot of different size firms including a startup with a few attorneys and I was able to help with a lot of the ground work with getting the practice management system in place and still do some of that now at my current firm. Has anyone done this right out of law school? Any advice?

I started QA at the company I am currently at 3 years ago. Long story short, within 4 months at the company, I was able to make a career change and step into a PM position. Without having the formal education or PM experience, only my 5 years in QA experience. When I started I made $65k and have jumped to $78k. I have seen other companies post $100k+. Annual review is tomorrow. Should I fight for more or look for more somewhere else if I lose that fight?

I’ve been verbally offered a position at a new company, but the recruiter insists on getting a verbal acceptance before sending the offer in writing. This person insists on negotiating salary before sending the paperwork. Generic benefits, RSUs, bonus info have been provided; it’s all unofficial.

This is absurd. Am I missing some “new way” of doing things? Your take?
