Hi, I'm looking for a mentor so I can pivot from e&i to software and devops. I love figuring out how things work. To me it is all a big mysterious puzzle to figure out and make work. I love seeing the pieces click together and suddenly begin doing something productive.

I'm currently learning python for self directed tasks and am working on skills related to OOP and software design patterns as well as studying to renew my CCNP Collaboration and working towards a CCNA DevNet.

Anyone studying toward the CIPM have any tips or study resources? Particularly those with a legal background working in privacy and regulatory compliance (non-IT cybersec). Would be delighted to connect. TIA ⭐

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. 1st yr at a nyc v50 firm doing general transactional work. I know the lateral market for transactional lawyers is hot but not as hot for juniors. I just want a change of scenery because my current firm is bleeding good associates / not giving great training imo / and just seems small. Would lateralling this early feasible? Would it look bad on my resume?

At what point does the value of a degree fall off? I'm in my early 30s, and have five years of experience, and work on a very theoretically interesting project. I believe I'm on track to promotion in the next year. So, I could put in a year of full time school to check the box off, but I'd be sacrificing hobbies and social life (not to mention cost). Is this FOMO or is there real opportunity here?
