If you are looking to save for long term worth putting money in a stocks and shares isa and buying tracker funds. They will go up and down in short run, but a low cost way of getting a reasonable average return in long run.
As you get pay rises try and save the extra. If you let your lifestyle creep you will feel as poor as when you are a graduate when you are earning 100K plus.
Make sure you check the approach your pension scheme uses. Some assume you are on 20% tax and add that onto your contributions. This means if you fall partly I to higher rate tax bracket (40%) you need to claim the extra 20% from HMRC. If you ring up they can do this for you.
The same with gift aid for charity donations. Gift aid assumes you are paying 20%, if you fall I to the higher tax bracket you need to manually claim difference.
Last one is if you invest in any start ups (not necessarily recommended) that are eligible for EIS or SEIS releif - also needs to be manually claimed back.
Get into Reddit’s FIRE UK bowl - they have generally good advice on ISA S&S (TLDR is Vanguard for low fees), LISA, Salary sacrifice etc etc (definitely take advantage if your company has the scheme - look it up and what it means for tax and NI savings).
