I recently interviewed with MITRE for a systems engineering role to make the move from Leidos where I feel underpaid for the work I do and for my experience ($85K). I have 4 YOE, a STEM degree, and soon will have a Masters Degree. I’m looking to make around $120K in the new role at Mitre. Does anyone have any insight into comp there? This would be in the DC metro area. Does $120K seem reasonable or am I dreaming?

Do you want to move to SoCal? I love the area, but there’s a ton more pharma in the Philly area where you are currently. And yes col and housing much more affordable.
I know this is an old thread but I just gotta say Thousand Oaks is beautiful. If you’re not trying to optimize for savings and you enjoy the area, definitely consider it
Congratulations on your new opportunities 😃
Housing costs are always going to be at least 200% more unless you hit the jackpot and find some enclave of affordable property.
I would Zillow research the area. I am the the east coast and had an opportunity for a job in California and once I researched the housing in commuting area , I realized I couldn’t do it. Housing is insane in most of California.
In the 1000 oaks area ( Westlake) a single br will be around 2400. If you’re a family man , you can consider moorpark, west lake village, or agoura hills. If not you can consider sharing a place or in a shady simi valley. This is not the problem. Amgen is notorious for being slow in hiring folks. People can live on 130k with adjustments in this area
For sr. Principal scientist it should be in the neighborhood of 200/250k
