I grew up in a two denomination household. Admittedly it was Catholic and Episcopalian so many shared beliefs. My parents celebrate the similarities, share the major holidays (Christmas Eve at the Episcopal church, Christmas morning at the Catholic Church and similar for Easter), and respect the differences. They will be married 50 years this year.
Hi! I know this post is old and I meant to reply to it when you originally posted. I am in one of those marriages you mention. I’d like to think it’s holy (although we only convalidated it this past weekend). I’m Catholic and my husband is Pentecostal. I love him so much and see our marriage as such a blessing in my life. I will admit that it is a little odd to work through differences in belief in the Real Presence ... but, then again, a big chunk of Catholics don’t believe in that either 😫. What I love about my husband’s faith is that he has a deep trust and faith in God’s mercy and grace. I have enjoyed learning about the nuances of his faith and their connections to my own.
That said, part of why I am comfortable with this might be because I come from a Catholic mom and Lutheran dad.
Anyways, I guess the short answer to your question is yes I have dated a non-Catholic and I sure hope a holy marriage can come from it!
I've been seeing a girl for three months who's been very wonderful, but I have been having increasing concerns along these lines. I think I know the answer here, and am going to talk with friends and family for advice, but am keen to get y'alls perspectives too. Appreciate and God bless
Let yourself listen to God’s plan. Hear him out with open ears.
